... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM MONDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST MONDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MORRISTOWN HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR LIGHT SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM MONDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST MONDAY NIGHT.

RAIN SHOWERS WILL MIX WITH AND CHANGE TO SNOW SHOWERS OVERNIGHT. THE SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE INTO MONDAY EVENING... WITH TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 5 INCHES EXPECTED... MAINLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA... AND THE MOUNTAINS OF EAST TENNESSEE INTO CHEROKEE AND CLAY COUNTIES OF NORTH CAROLINA.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING... BUT ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT. DRIVING AND WALKING MAY BE DIFFICULT ON UNTREATED ROADWAYS AND SIDEWALKS. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION.

A little more of the statement for the area...

Statement as of 3:16 PM EST on November 30, 2008

...Rain showers changing to snow showers overnight...

.Rain showers will mix with and change to snow showers overnight...with some light snow accumulations possible for elevations above 2500 feet before daybreak. The snow showers may initially melt due to surface temperatures in the lower to middle 30s...but the threat of light snow accumulations will continue for the higher elevations into Monday night.

The higher elevations of southwestern Virginia...the mountains of east Tennessee...and southwestern North Carolina...could get total snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches by Monday evening. The large low pressure system responsible for this wintry weather should move east of the region by early Tuesday morning...with just some lingering flurries on Tuesday.

Elsewhere...valley locations of east Tennessee and southwestern Virginia can only expect a dusting to around an inch of snowfall. Higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau...could measure up to an inch or two of snowfall by Monday evening.

Another round is trying to move in. Maybe not as intense as earlier but should accumulate better now the sun has set. Supposed to start winding down a bit after midnight. Some lingering snow showers/flurries possible in the morning too, especially in the mountains.

Of course its still coming down, but any snowfall reports so far? About a dusting to an inch or it appears for some across the lower elevations. According to reports into WCYB, there was 3 in Coeburn, and even a 8 inch report on High Knob. Winter storm warnings up for the western North Carolina mountains (over 6 inches in those areas), so some of the highest peaks are getting dumped on.
